WASHINGTON — Perhaps as soon as spring, some Metro riders will be able to
order groceries online from Giant’s Peapod service, and
then pick them up at a Metro station on the way home.

“That’ll be good, it’s convenient,” says Timothy Hugee, who rides public
transportation to and from work and doesn’t drive. “To come off work and have
something waiting for you there — it’s like one-stop shopping.”

The Washington Post reports Giant
will deliver food to three stations: Fort Totten that serves the Green, Yellow
and Red
lines; Glenmont serving the Red Line; and the Blue Line’s Van Dorn Street
Station.

Metro Rider Deborah Lucey isn’t interested, however.

“I prefer to go and take
my time, and look around,” she says.

Lucey says she finds grocery shopping relaxing.

For a trial six-month period, the service will be available between 4 p.m. and
7 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday

If picking up food orders at Metro stations proves popular, The Post says
Metro will consider expanding the service to other stations.
