WASHINGTON — A man was reportedly carjacked and locked in the trunk of his car by two men in Northwest D.C. Tuesday afternoon.
The Metropolitan Police Department says that two men forced a driver out of his car at gunpoint on the 900 block of Decatur Street Northwest, a few blocks west of Sherman Circle, around 4:20 p.m., and put him in the trunk.
They drove only a few blocks — to Emerson Street and Georgia Avenue — before hitting a curb and flattening a tire.
WUSA 9 reports the man used the trunk’s emergency safety release and escaped by jumping out of the moving vehicle onto Georgia Avenue.
Police say one of the suspects is a black man between 20 and 23 years old. He is approximately 6 feet tall and wore all black clothing at the time of the crime.
The other suspect is a black man who is about 5 foot, 8 inches tall. He wore all black clothing at the time of of the carjacking.
Both men were armed, police say.
It is not yet clear if the suspects and victim knew each other.
“Those finer details are being investigated,” says MPD Lt. Kelvin Cusick.
Police didn’t give a motive.
