Nats’ Williams, O’s’ Showalter win Manager of the Year

WASHINGTON — Nationals skipper Matt Williams has won the National League
Manager of the Year Award in his first season after guiding the Nationals to the
National League East Division title.

Williams took over for former manager Davey Johnson. Johnson won the Manager of the
Year honors in 1997 with Baltimore and again in 2012 with Washington after he took
the team to the playoffs for the first time since the club relocated from Montreal.

Orioles’ skipper Buck Showalter won his third American League Manager of the Year
Award, for his third team, winning the honor in 1994 with the Yankees and again in
2004 with the Texas Rangers.

Showalter guided the Orioles to the American League East Division title this past
season, and after winning the Division Series, lost to the pennant winning Kansas
City Royals.

Showalter now joins three-time winners Dusty Baker, Jim Leyland and Lou Piniella,
with Bobby Cox and Tony LaRussa honored four time in their careers.
