FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) — The Maryland Energy Administration is promoting small-scale wind power projects with grants targeting rural communities.
Agency officials are holding a meeting Friday in Frostburg about what they’re calling the Community Windswept Grant Program. It’s the last of three such meetings the agency has held around the state this fall.
The American Wind Energy Association says such projects use wind turbines rated at 100 kilowatts or less. Large-scale wind farms use turbines rated in megawatts.
The association says there’s a wide range of small turbine models suitable for homes, schools, commercial and industrial facilities, farms, ranches and communities.
