Projects on bases planned for NBA Hoops for Troops

NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA and Sony Computer Entertainment America will host eight service projects throughout this season at military bases around the United States.

The first event will take place Thursday at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn during NBA Cares Hoops for Troops week, which began Tuesday and runs through Veteran’s Day. Also Thursday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will work with service members to donate food to needy families in New York.

The service projects include basket installations, donated entertainment packages featuring the PlayStation4 entertainment system and games, and appearances by former NBA players.

The league also says some of the special Hoops for Troops warmup shirts being worn by teams will be sold at the NBA Store in New York and on NBAStore.com, with a portion of sales being donated to the USO.
