When Bethesda’s famed “Mushroom House” went on sale last week, news outlets near and far weren’t far behind.

Such is the power of the two-story stucco covered in blueish polyurethane foam at 4949 Allan Rd. It was redesigned by previous owners Edward and Frances Garfinkle in 1974.

At $1.2 million, the new listing garnered attention from the Huffington Post, DCist and a news station in North Carolina.

According to real estate website Redfin, it was the second most viewed Bethesda home over the last week, with about 1,000 views. A more traditional four-bedroom, three- bathroom home at 10324 Dickens Ave. actually got about 200 more views.

Still, the Mushroom House qualified as a “Hot Home,” according to the website, which also suggests there’s an 80 percent chance it will sell in the next three days.

The No. 3 most viewed listing at Redfin over the last week was of a home at 7716 Bells Mill Rd., followed by a $950,000 home at 5420 Mohican Rd.

Redfin’s Alina Ptaszynski said the top viewed listings provide “a microcosm of what specific homes and price points are commanding the most buyer attention in Bethesda.”

So even with it’s one-of-a-kind style, it’s not surprising more home-seekers checked out the more affordable Dickens Avenue house — listed at $624,900.
