WASHINGTON (AP) — An investigation into alleged misconduct of an FBI agent has resulted in the release of several pre-trial defendants and convicted felons from prison.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1wlVcpB ) that the Justice Department’s inspector general’s office is leading the investigation, and that the agent has been suspended indefinitely but not criminally charged.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington says it is reviewing all “matters in which the FBI agent at issue played some role.”

The type of misconduct alleged is unclear. But the fallout has involved the release of 13 people charged with drug offenses in Washington. Eight convicts were also released to home detention last week, and on Oct. 17, four convicts and others awaiting trials were let out of jail “for the duration of a current investigation.”
