SEATTLE (AP) — Newly released police dispatch recordings from a deadly Washington state high school shooting reveal the difficulties law enforcement faced as they tried to secure a sprawling campus.

The recordings show that one officer was inside the Marysville-Pilchuck High School cafeteria within a minute of emergency dispatch calling out reports Oct. 24 of an active shooter. The officer confirmed the shooter, Jaylen Fryberg, was dead. He franticly called for medical help for the students who were injured.

Two 14-year-old girls died as a result of the shooting, one Oct. 24 and the other at a hospital on Oct. 26. Fryberg committed suicide.

The police dispatch tapes were released after The Associated Press filed a public records request.

The campus north of Seattle is a maze of buildings, and officers had to secure each one before moving the students to buses that would take them to their parents. The process took hours.

School was closed this week, but classes will resume Monday.
