Berberian leads PGA Assistant Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Richard Berberian Jr. shot a 3-under 69 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the PGA Assistant Championship.

Berberian, a PGA assistant professional at Windham Country Club in New Hampshire, had an 8-under 136 total on PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course.

“The wind was tough over the final few holes, but I was able to keep the ball in play off the tee,” Berberian said. “That always makes it easier to score regardless of what the wind is doing.

“I haven’t played as consistently as I would like this week, but my putting has really kept me in both rounds. I’ve made the putts when I had to, whether it’s been for birdie, par or bogey.”

Brian Norman was second after a 72. He’s a PGA assistant professional at Eldorado Country Club in McKinnney, Texas.
