Baltimore officer charged with assaulting detainee

BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore police officer has been charged with assault and misconduct in office.

Prosecutors say Officer Terrell Carter punched a person who was in a holding cell after being taken into custody on Jan. 1. They say Carter punched the inmate after the two got into a verbal altercation.

Carter was charged in the case on Thursday. No attorney is listed for him in court records.
