More football hazing incidents coming to light in Ashburn

WASHINGTON — Local high school football players are being investigated for hazing, and the latest accusations are part of a troubling trend at Briar Woods High School in Ashburn, Virginia.

Currently, several varsity players are being investigated for assault, following claims that two junior varsity players were held down and abused this month.

The Loudoun Times reports the abuse involved sexual exposure. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating those as assaults.

Now, more possible incidents are coming to light. The Times reports that in May, a student reported that he had seen a player being held down and inappropriately touched.

Two other incidents also occurred around that time, but none could be “verified,” according to the Times. No disciplinary measures were handed out by the school.

The sheriff’s office also opened an investigation, but the case was closed without any charges being filed because the victims didn’t want to proceed with the charges.

At Briar Woods, which is known for its top-tier football program, several players have been held out of recent games or asked not to attend school.
