Ex-Baltimore transit official charged with bribery

BALTIMORE (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted a Baltimore transportation chief on bribery and money laundering charges.

Prosecutors said Thursday that the grand jury returned an indictment against 65-year-old Barry Robinson of Accokeek on Wednesday. He’s charged with two counts of bribery and one count of money laundering.

Robinson didn’t respond to a message left at his home number.

Robinson is the former chief of the Division of Transit and Marine Services at the Baltimore City Department of Transportation. He oversaw the city’s circulator and water taxi programs.

Prosecutors say he took a $20,000 bribe to cancel a $60,000 debt owed to Baltimore, and took a $70,000 bribe to allow the theft of unused city bus shelters worth $250,000.

If convicted, Robinson could face up to 40 years in prison.
