8 students charged after fights at Norfolk school

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Eight students face charges following fights and false fire alarms at a high school in Norfolk.

Last week’s incidents prompted Norview High School to postpone a football game and cancel events.

Media outlets report that city, police, school and fire officials announced the charges against six students on Tuesday. Two students were previously charged.

Two students are charged with assault and battery stemming from fights with security guards. Four students are charged with disorderly conduct and false alarm. Another faces disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges. One student is charged with disorderly conduct.

The students range in age from 14 to 17.

The fights occurred last Friday after a fire alarm was triggered.
