Uber’s carpooling concept could make its way to DC

WASHINGTON — Popular ride-sharing company Uber is testing out a concept called “Uber Pool.”

Former presidential adviser David Plouffe now works for Uber, and was talking about the latest developments at a Washington Post forum.

“Let’s say next April you’re here on 14th Street and you want to go to a Nationals game,” said Plouffe. “You’ll call an Uber, and if there’s someone on the route within two minutes, they’ll pick them up. So you’ll both carpool to the game. It’ll be 40 percent cheaper than uberX.”

Uber is currently testing the service in San Francisco, but one day, it could come to D.C.

“Things like carpooling could really play a big impact in taking cars off the road, helping with congestion,” said Plouffe.
