Queen Elizabeth II sends her first tweet

WASHINGTON — Here’s something you don’t see — or read — every day.

On Friday morning – or afternoon in the UK – Queen Elizabeth sent her very first tweet through the British Monarchy’s verified Twitter account.

“It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @sciencemuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting,” the Queen tweeted, signing the message with “Elizabeth R.”

Naturally, the internet caught fire. As of this story, the Queen’s tweet has 5,614 retweets and 4,509 favorites.

Is she now a Twitter-phile? Tweets will tell.
