Wildlife Center of Virginia to release bald eagle

CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) — The Wildlife Center of Virginia is set to release a bald eagle at Kiptopeke State Park in Cape Charles.

The release will occur on Thursday.

The wildlife center says the eagle was found face-down in a field in Accomack County in September and admitted into the hospital.

Center veterinary and rehabilitation staff that have been exercising the eagle for several weeks have determined that the eagle is able to fly well and is ready to be returned to the wild.

Virginia’s bald eagle population is on the rebound. It was once down to 50 nests in the state, but there are now more than 1,000 active bald eagle nests.

Since its founding in 1982, the center has cared for more than 65,000 wild animals.
