Sporting director to leave McLaren F1 team

LONDON (AP) — Sporting director Sam Michael is to leave the McLaren F1 team at the end of the season and return to his native Australia.

The team, which next season reunites with Honda as its engine supplier, said Michael is departing “on extremely good terms” after handing in his notice in March.

Michael, 43, joined McLaren from Williams, where he was technical director, in 2011. He worked previously for Lotus and Jordan.
