Love and Marriage wins Belmont feature

NEW YORK (AP) — Love and Marriage rallied in the slop to nip Get Gorgeous by a head on Wednesday in the $75,460 allowance feature for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.

The wet conditions forced the race off the turf course onto the main track at the same 1 1/16 miles distance. The surface shift didn’t bother Love and Marriage, a promising 3-year-old trained by Chad Brown.

This was only the third start, and second straight victory, for the filly who had run twice before on grass.

Joel Rosario was aboard as she was clocked in 1:44.89, paying $8, $4.20 and $2.90 as the 3-1 second choice.

Get Gorgeous returned $5.20 and $3.20 while Miss Melinda paid $3.20 to show.

Glacken’s Gift, the 6-5 favorite, ran last in the five-horse field.
