Driver sentenced to 30 months after Marine’s death

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio driver has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after a hit-and-run crash killed a U.S. Marine from Virginia.

The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1r7oYbQ ) 26-year-old Holly Fowler of Urbana was sentenced Monday in Logan County Common Pleas Court. She pleaded guilty in September to failing to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence.

Police say Fowler admitted responsibility and that damage on her car was consistent with evidence at the scene where a vehicle struck 34-year-old Monica Plank in February.

The Marine from Stafford, Virginia was struck after leaving a restaurant. She’d been visiting family in Bellefontaine (behl-FOWN’-tihn), roughly 50 miles northwest of Columbus.

Fowler’s license was also suspended for five years.
