RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A federal appeals court has upheld the convictions of a Fairfax man who assaulted U.S. Park Police who found him naked in a car on Daingerfield Island.

Jay Bonanza Briley is serving more than six years in prison after a jury in Alexandria convicted him on four charges.

According to court documents, officers tried to arrest Briley for disorderly conduct in January 2012. Briley refused to get out of the car, kicked an officer in the stomach and dragged two officers several yards.

Briley claimed the jury improperly heard testimony that he was arrested again two months later during a sexual liaison at the same Alexandria marina. A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed Wednesday that the testimony was improper but called it “harmless error.”
