Judge drops felonies against ex-prep football star

DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit judge has dismissed felony charges against a one-time prep football star accused of assaulting his girlfriend after he was released from jail for body-slamming a security officer in his school.

Judge Ruth C. Carter on Monday dismissed felony assault, unarmed robbery and computer charges against Jayru Campbell. The 17-year-old remains in jail while facing a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

Prosecutors say Campbell assaulted the 17-year-old girl in a stairwell at Cass Technical High School on Sept. 12.

In May, a judge sentenced him to 60 days in jail. He admitted he slammed the officer head-first Jan. 22.
