Northwestern WR Shuler hurt on short pass

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern wide receiver Miles Shuler has been taken off the field on a stretcher after a short reception against Nebraska.

Shuler had his head down when he slammed into Nebraska safety Corey Cooper with 3:36 left in the third quarter on Saturday night. The stadium was mostly silent as Shuler was attended to by trainers during a long delay, and Cornhuskers coach Bo Pelini walked across the field to check on the junior.

There was a warm round of applause as Shuler left the field, and he held his right arm up to acknowledge the cheers. The school says Shuler was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Shuler had five receptions for 33 yards in the game.
