San Diego holds off Butler 27-21

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Keith Williams threw for 251 yards with a touchdown and San Diego held on to defeat Butler 27-21 on Saturday.

Williams connected with Ross Dwelley on a 4-yard touchdown to open the scoring in the second quarter. The Toreros (5-1, 3-1 Pioneer) took advantage of two punting blunders by Butler, leading to rushing scores by Chris Campano and Parker Mays for a 21-0 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-3) cut into the lead with a 57-yard touchdown run by Guy DiBalsamo, and Malcolm Weaver later found Derek O’Connor on a 25-yard strike to make it 27-21 with 2:07 remaining. Butler got the ball back with just over a minute to play, but ran out of time near midfield after two desperation lateral attempts.

Brandon White had 93 yards on nine receptions for San Diego. David Last kicked two second-half field goals, the second making it 27-14 with 4:19 left.
