Roberson, Illinois St. rally past W Illinois 37-34

MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Tre Roberson accounted for four second-half touchdowns and Nick Aussieker kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired, rallying Illinois State past Western Illinois 37-34 on Saturday.

The Redbirds (6-0, 3-0 Missouri Valley) faced a 27-6 deficit late in the third quarter, but stormed back as Roberson threw touchdown passes of 10 and 9 yards to James O’Shaughnessy and scored on a 6-yard run in between, tying it at 27.

Western Illinois (3-5, 1-3) responded with a 75-yard strike from Trenton Norvell to Lance Lenoir, but Illinois State once again answered with a 24-yard touchdown from Roberson to Cameron Meredith with 7:53 remaining.

Norvell drove the Leathernecks past midfield, but was intercepted by David Perkins with 2:28 left. A third-down completion from Roberson to Anthony Warrum set up Aussieker’s game-winner.

Marshaun Coprich had 114 yards rushing with a 69-yard touchdown.

Lenoir had 195 yards on 12 receptions with two scores.
