Boozer wins California Flag ‘Cap at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Boozer led all the way to win the $100,000 California Flag Handicap by 2 1/2 lengths Saturday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Boozer ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:12.36 and paid $3.40 and $2.20 as the 3-5 favorite in the field of four California-bred or sired horses. There was no show wagering after two late scratches.

Tamarando returned $2.80 in his first start since April 26, while Super Ability was another half-length back in third.

The victory, worth $60,000, increased Boozer’s career earnings to $292,672, with five wins in 12 starts. The 4-year-old gelding has three wins in six races on the track’s turf course.

“He’s a versatile horse,” trainer Mark Glatt said. “We’ll obviously keep him on the grass.”
