Police: Baby left 6 hours in Oregon car later dies

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A 6-month-old baby girl left in a car in an Oregon suburb for approximately six hours Thursday has died, police said.

Hillsboro Lt. Michael Rouches said the child’s father called for help at about 5 p.m. Thursday, saying the baby was in his car in a parking lot and needed medical treatment.

Fire Department spokesman Storm Smith said medics found both mother and father at the scene, with the mother following a 911 operator’s instructions on performing CPR. Smith says medics took over treatment and an ambulance took the child to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Rouches said the cause of death has not been determined. Neither the father nor mother was identified.

The spokesman said detectives are investigating. There was no immediate information on why the child was left in the car.

Rouches said the father works at Intel and the car was in a large company parking lot.

Hillsboro is a west Portland suburb.
