Berdych, Dimitrov reach Stockholm Open semis

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Top-seeded Tomas Berdych beat Marius Copil of Romania 6-2, 6-2 Friday to reach the semifinals of the Stockholm Open.

The Czech, the 2012 Stockholm champion, needs to win his next match against German qualifier Matthias Bachinger to stay in the running for a berth in the eight-man ATP finals.

Bachinger served 13 aces as he defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Australia’s Bernard Tomic faces defending champion Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the other semifinal.

Tomic recovered from a miserable start to beat Fernando Verdasco of Spain 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Tomic said that “to be able to come back and win the second set after losing first with six-love is very hard and I’m very pleased.”

Dimitrov also lost the first set before beating American Jack Sock 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
