Turkish wrestler suspended after positive test

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY, Switzerland (AP) — Turkish wrestler Samil Erdogan faces a possible two-year ban and loss of his bronze medal after failing a doping test at the world championships.

United World Wrestling says Erdogan tested positive for the steroid stanozolol on Sept. 9 at the championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Erdogan, who won bronze in the 97-kilogram (213-pound) freestyle division, has requested that his backup “B” sample be tested.

The international federation says Erdogan has been provisionally suspended and faces a two-year suspension if found guilty of a doping offense.
