ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — A Montgomery County judge has ruled that a 14-year-old boy should be tried as an adult in the attempted murder of a teenage girl in Wheaton.

A county judge issued that ruling after a hearing last week, finding that the teenage gang member’s actions were cold, calculated and brazen.

WJLA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/ZFv4Jp ) that the teen’s first hearing in adult court is Friday.

The boy, then 13, is accused of shooting a 16-year-old girl as she ran away from him in the early-morning hours of July 30. Investigators say the boy targeted the girl because she had reported his involvement in a 2012 assault in which a man’s head and face was sliced open with a glass bottle.

Though three bullets hit her, the now-18-year-old girl had minor injuries.
