CBJ activate Brian Gibbons, send him to AHL team

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Brian Gibbons off injured reserve and assigned him to their American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Gibbons missed the first three games of the regular season with a lower body injury.

The 26-year-old joined the Blue Jackets in July after spending the past three seasons in the Pittsburgh organization. The center tallied five goals and seven assists and a +5 plus/minus rating in 41 games with the Penguins last season.

Gibbons, a Braintree, Massachusetts, native, won NCAA titles with Boston College in 2008 and 2010.
