GOP governors group adds $21.5 million to coffers

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The Republican Governors Association says it raised $21.5 million in the three-month quarter that ended Sept. 30.

That’s significantly less than the $31 million it raised during the same period in 2010 and less than some were expecting from the group, which typically outraises its Democratic counterpart by a 2-to-1 margin.

The Democratic Governors Association said Tuesday it raised almost $20 million in July, August and September.

Still, the haul brings the RGA’s total raised this year through Sept. 30 to $72 million — versus $47 million for the Democrats.

A spokesman says the cash puts the RGA in a strong position to spend more than $100 million before voters head to the polls next month.
