Teen falls to death into gorge at New York park

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. (AP) — A 14-year-old boy has died in a 200-foot fall into a gorge at a state park in upstate New York.

Police tell the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester (http://on.rocne.ws/1wgRfzP ) that the boy died Friday after he left a designated trail at Letchworth State Park.

Fellow hikers called police shortly before 1 p.m.

State Police Maj. David Page said the boy was confirmed dead by first responders.

Page said there is no wall or barrier between the trail and the gorge in the area where the teen was hiking.

The boy’s name was not immediately released.
