Northwestern State routs Incarnate Word 49-12

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Zach Adkins threw four TD passes, Lyn Clark recovered a fumble for a score Saturday and Northwestern State routed Incarnate Word 49-12 in the teams’ first-ever meeting.

Adkins hit Tuff McClain with a 12-yard TD pass, then scored on a 40-yarder to Ed Eagan and a 3-yarder to Corey Simmons. Imoan Claiborne recovered a fumble and Adkins hit Cody Jones with a 3-yard TD pass five plays later for a 35-3 halftime lead.

The Demons held Incarnate Word (1-6, 1-3 Southland) to 70 total yards in the first half, and Claiborne’s sack of Breylann McCollum on the 1 forced the fumble Clark recovered.

Adkins was 15 of 21 for 159 yards for the Demons (3-3, 1-1). Garrett Atzenweiler had 146 yards on 12 carries, including a 47-yard TD run. De’Mard Llorens scored on a 1-yard run.

Jordan Scelfo hit Gabriel Taylor with a 23-yard TD pass and Ramon Coto Jr. kicked two field goals for the Cardinals.
