Montclair State’s Gargiulo intercepts 5 passes

BUENA VISTA, Va. (AP) — Montclair State safety Eric Gargiulo intercepted five passes to tie the NCAA Division III record in the Red Hawks’ 35-15 victory over Southern Virginia on Saturday.

Gargiulo became the 12th player in NCAA Division III history and the first since Stillman’s James Patrick in 2002 to intercept five passes in a game.

Gargiulo broke the school record of three last accomplished by Sal Fama against Western Connecticut in 2004.

Gargiulo has seven interceptions in the last two games.
