Kenseth starts Charlotte race at back of field

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Chase contender Matt Kenseth was forced to start the Sprint Cup race at Charlotte at the back of the field Saturdy night for what NASCAR termed “unapproved adjustments” to the right rear quarter panel of his No. 20 Toyota.

Kenseth’s crew chief, Jason Ratcliffe, was not pleased, saying on radio, “You have got to be kidding me” and “they are out of control. Absolutely out of control.”

Kenseth remained calm, saying, “Let’s just get it together here, keep our composure and do the things we know how to do. It’s not a big deal. It’s 500 miles.”

Kenseth entered the race seventh in the Chase standings and was slated to start the race 22nd.

It took him 50 laps to move back up to that 22nd spot.
