AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A man convicted last week of gunning down four people in a northeast Ohio townhome is asking for a new trial.

Attorneys for 22-year-old Deshanon Haywood filed court papers on Thursday asking for a new trial based on allegations of misconduct by prosecutors and two witnesses.

The Akron Beacon Journal (http://cin.ci/1w9Ppk9 ) reports that the death-penalty phase of Haywood’s trial was scheduled to begin next week, but it’s now been delayed. A judge has set a hearing on the motion for Tuesday.

A prosecutor’s office representative declined to comment on the motion, which claims false testimony from two state witnesses, and prosecutors failing to disclose potentially exonerating evidence.

Haywood and another man were convicted in the drug-related slayings of four young people at an Akron townhome in April 2013.
