BALTIMORE (AP) — The Maryland Transit Administration warning its drivers after two incidents that anyone who jeopardizes customer safety will be fired.

MTA Administrator Robert Smith issued a statement Thursday following two unrelated incidents where bus drivers appeared to assist suspects who were involved in fights. Smith says safety and security is the agency’s top priority.

In a June incident in Baltimore, a former bus driver faces criminal charges. After an assault on one group of passengers by another set of passengers, the driver was accused of helping the attackers escape by driving them from the scene. The MTA says the driver has been fired.

In August, two passengers got into a fight on a bus in Baltimore County and exited. Then a driver allowed one suspect to re-enter and leave the scene.
