WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge is giving the government an Oct. 17 deadline to block out portions of 28 classified videotapes showing the treatment of a Guantanamo Bay hunger striker.

U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler said she wants removal of identifying information such as faces, voices and names before public release of the tapes.

On Thursday, Kessler also set an Oct. 20 deadline for news organizations and the government to prepare a joint proposal on how the tapes can be made available to the public most efficiently.

In a decision last Friday, the judge ruled that the tapes should be made public. They show a long-time detainee, Abu Wa’el Dhiab, at the U.S. detention facility in Cuba being forcibly removed from his prison cell, strapped to a restraining chair and force fed.
