Gubernatorial candidates discuss helping disabled

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland’s three candidates for governor have outlined some of their plans on how they would work to help the disabled in the state.

They attended a forum at the National Federation of the Blind on Thursday.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, a Democrat, says he would create a task force to review state practices on hiring the disabled and identify unmet needs and work against any discriminatory hiring practices.

Boyd Rutherford stood in for Republican Larry Hogan. Rutherford, Hogan’s running mate, says he wouldn’t mind setting specific goals for hiring the disabled in state government. He also says he would explore tax incentives for the private sector for hiring the disabled.

Shawn Quinn, a Libertarian, promised he would have people with disabilities working in his office if he is elected.
