SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle school district has agreed to pay $700,000 to the family of a high school student who said she was raped by another student on an overnight field trip to Olympic National Park.

Seattle Public Schools attorney Ron English tells The Seattle Times (http://bit.ly/1nd5UMU ) the district admits no liability and settled to avoid a lawsuit. The settlement still needs the approval of the school board.

A Garfield High School student who now lives out of state says she was raped by a boy on the 2012 field trip. No criminal charges were filed.

Her parents filed a complaint with the district. They say it failed to investigate properly and failed to protect their daughter from retaliation by other students after she reported the incident.
