Delays continue at Chicago airports

AURORA, Ill. (AP) — Delays continue at Chicago’s two airports, a week after a fire at a regional communications center shut down the airports for hours, causing more than 2,000 flights in and out of O’Hare and Midway to be canceled and disrupting travel nationwide.

This morning, delays were about a half-hour the two airports, and about 200 flights were canceled at O’Hare.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it hopes to return the facility to full service by Oct. 13.

The head of the FAA is touring the communications center today. Administrator Michael Huerta is also meeting with the Illinois congressional delegation.

Lawmakers have called for an investigation into how a former contract employee entered the building with a suitcase Sept. 26 without causing suspicion. Federal prosecutors say the Naperville man started a fire before attempting to commit suicide.
