HOUSTON (AP) — A convicted Texas felon who faked being an Army Ranger to get close to acclaimed retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell faces up to 10 years in prison for having guns.

Daniel Lee Marshall of Conroe pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, involving a semi-automatic rifle and a shotgun.

Federal prosecutors in Houston say the investigation started with Luttrell filing a complaint that a pistol had been stolen. Authorities determined Marshall, who prosecutors say posed as an ex-special forces operator, had a forgery conviction.

Officers confiscated weapons from Marshall’s home in April. Luttrell’s gun was recovered.

Luttrell is the only Navy SEAL who survived a June 2005 firefight in Afghanistan. His best-selling book, “Lone Survivor,” became a movie starring Mark Wahlberg.
