Man cited for bringing gun to Virginia airport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — A man faces a weapons charge after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on bag at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration says a TSA officer detected the semi-automatic .38-caliber handgun with an X-ray machine as the Newport News man passed through the airport’s security point. The gun was loaded with nine rounds, including one in the chamber.

Airport police cited the man on a state weapons charge and confiscated the firearm.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning. The TSA says airport operations weren’t affected.
