North Slope pulls 10-1 upset in Belmont feature

NEW YORK (AP) — North Slope snapped an 11-race losing streak with a 10-1 upset victory Friday in the $80,000 allowance feature on the turf at Belmont Park.

A 4-year-old gelding trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, North Slope rallied down the center of the course for his third win in 17 starts. Irad Ortiz, Jr. was aboard for the mile in 1:34.11 over the firm course.

North Slope paid $23.20, $9.50 and $6.10, beating Middleburg by 1 1/2 lengths.

Middleburg, the 2-1 favorite, returned $3.40 and $3 as he extended his streak of second-place finishes to four. Brickyard Kitten paid $5.40 to show.
