ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — Mayo Clinic has been cited by federal authorities for accidentally burning a monkey during a research procedure.

An inspection report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture says the legs of the monkey were burned by overheated fluid bags that were used for “thermal support during an imaging procedure.” The monkey was anesthetized at the time and has recovered.

Rochester, Minnesota-based Mayo voluntarily reported the incident to the USDA during a recent inspection visit. The Post-Bulletin says the agency commended Mayo for its care and treatment of the monkey following the accident.

The USDA inspection in August involved nearly 450 animals, including dogs, cats, baboons, goats, sheep and pigs.
