How the Dow Jones industrial average did Friday

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stock indexes ended mixed on a day when the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba made its big debut on the New York Stock Exchange. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped less than a point on Friday but still finished with its best weekly gain in a month.

The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 13.75 points, or 0.1 percent, to 17,279.74

The S&P 500 index slipped 0.96 of a point, a sliver of a percent, to 2,010.40.

The Nasdaq composite fell 13.64 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,579.79.

For the week:

The Dow was up 292.23 points, or 1.7 percent.

The S&P 500 index was up 24.86 points, 1.3 percent.

The Nasdaq was up 12.19 points, or 0.3 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 703.08 points, or 4.2 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 162.04 points, or 8.8 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 403.20 points, or 9.7 percent.
