Maryland police officer suspended after domestic incident

WASHINGTON — Probationary Officer Themis Speis has been suspended from the Prince George’s County Police Department after he was charged Sunday with second degree assault.

The suspension stems from a domestic situation that occurred when Speis was off duty. The victim, who wasn’t named by police, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital.

Speis has been with the department for about 18 months, according to police information.

He is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol in the county’s District 6 office. His police powers have been suspended and the police department’s Special Investigation Response Team is looking into the issue.
