WASHINGTON — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was brought to the hospital Saturday night after suffering from shortness of breath, according to police who spoke with WTOP.

Rawlings-Blake, 44, was in attendance and spoke at the Star Spangled Spectacular event at the Pier 6 concert pavilion at the Inner Harbor Saturday.

Police said she was taken to an area hospital. A spokeswoman for the mayor, who has been in office since 2010, told CBS WJZ Baltimore that Rawlings-Blake was fine, and being held for observation. No additional information was available early Sunday morning.

Rawlings-Blake is a longtime politician and Democratic Party leader in the city, becoming the youngest person ever elected to the Baltimore City Council in 1995. She became President of the Council in 2007, and ascended to mayor when then-Mayor Sheila Dixon was forced to resign in 2010. Rawlings-Blake was elected in her own right the next year.
