Stephen F. Austin Texas beats A&M Commerce 38-17

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Zach Conque threw three scoring passes and Gus Johnson ran for two touchdowns Saturday to help Stephen F. Austin beat Division II Texas A&M Commerce 38-17.

Johnson gained 131 yards on 13 carries, including 106 yards in the first quarter and a 20-yard TD run in the fourth.

Conque was 24 of 38 for 293 yards passing and two interceptions.

The Lumberjacks (2-1, 1-0 Southland) scored on their first two possessions, a 47-yard run by Johnson and a 10-yard pass from Conque to Jayson Clements.

Dj Ward made it 21-3 after grabbing a short pass from Conque and racing 60 yards for the score. Conque hit Tyler Boyd with a 24-yard TD pass in the third quarter.

Backup quarterback Deric Davis had a 2-yard TD run for the Lions (1-1) midway through the third quarter, then hit Jordan Jenkins on a 3-yard scoring pass in the fourth.
