Lions sign Ness to active roster

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have signed safety Nate Ness to the team’s active roster.

Ness had been on the practice squad, but he was called up amid injury problems within the secondary. Cornerback Bill Bentley went on injured reserve with a knee injury, and safety James Ihedigbo’s status for Sunday’s game at Carolina is uncertain.

Ihedigbo has been dealing with a neck problem.

The 28-year-old Ness last played in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams in 2011. He also played for the Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks in 2010, starting one game for Seattle.
